Dale was born in County Durham, brought up on South Tyneside and now lives in north Northumberland, near Felton just south of Alnwick, with his wife and baby daughter.
He worked in IT for 20 years, always having a keen interest in art and photography, and then took up photography seriously 2 years ago.
He spends his time travelling around the beautiful county where he lives, getting into position at those magical hours around dawn and dusk when natural light is at its most special to capture the atmosphere and beauty of that unique moment in time.
As well as specialising in landscape photography, Dale is also keen on capturing still life, particularly the variety and colour of flowers, which stems from his love of gardening. He has a cottage style garden at his home and many of the images here are of traditional flowers from his garden and the surrounding countryside.
With his background in IT, his photographic workflow is totally digital, using digital SLR cameras for capturing images and then computers for post production and printing.
Dale uses the following photographic equipment to capture his images:
- Canon 5D MkII DSLR
- Canon 450D DSLR Infrared Modified
- Canon 17-40mm f/4.0 L
- Canon 24-105mm f/4.0 L
- Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 L
- Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 L
- Canon 50mm f/1.8 II
- Sigma EX DG Macro 105mm
- Manfrotto tripod and head
- Lee ND Grad Filters and Circular Polariser
- B&W ND Filters
Adobe Photoshop CS5 is used for post production work, and prints are produced in-house using an Epson Stylus Pro 3880 onto Hahnemühle papers.
